How is AEO different from SEO?
SEO competes for a position in a list. AEO competes to be the sentence the engine reads out. That changes how content is written: the answer comes first, in plain language, with a defined term, a number and a source, and the detail follows. Pew's data shows only about 1% of visits click a link inside Google's AI summary,[2] so the brand named inside the answer wins the attention, click or not.
Which questions should my brand answer first?
The ones closest to revenue. We build a question bank from sales calls, support tickets, People Also Ask, Reddit and forum threads, review sites and AI-assistant prompts. We then cluster those questions by intent: definitional, comparison, cost, process, trust and local. High-intent clusters (“how much does…”, “X vs Y”, “best for”, “near me”) are answered first.
What does an answer-ready page look like?
A question-led heading, a 40–60 word answer capsule and a key-takeaways box. Supporting sections each answer one sub-question, with a cited statistics block and tables for comparisons. Then an FAQ with FAQPage schema, author and organisation details, and a visible last-updated date. Every page we build for Flags Digital follows this pattern, including this one.
Does AEO work for voice search and AI assistants?
Yes. Voice assistants, featured snippets, AI Overviews and chat assistants all prefer a self-contained answer they can read out or quote. Writing in natural, conversational language, the way people speak their questions, serves all of them at once.
Point of viewThe Flags take
AEO is not about tricking an algorithm with FAQ spam. Answer engines are built to find the clearest, best-evidenced answer. Our job is to make sure that answer is yours: accurate, specific, sourced and easy to quote.
- The question bank is the strategy. Get the questions right and the content plan writes itself.
- Cost and comparison questions are the most commercially valuable answers, and most brands avoid them. Answer them honestly.
- Refresh answers quarterly. Stale facts are the fastest way to lose a featured snippet or AI citation.
